What is the Sales and Marketing Council's Past Pioneers program?

"Past Pioneers" is a program created by the 2006 Charlotte HBA's Sales and Marketing Council to introduce past SMC leaders to current SMC members.

August recap
Larry Ostema with Horack Talley and Cheryl Steele spoke to members and guests at the Sales and Marketing Council’s August Breakfast Meeting about “Selling The Green Home.” Larry engaged the audience with his presentation on “The Three C’s of Green Neighborhood Development: Climate, Carbon and Certifications. Burning one pound of coal for energy generates 5.7 pounds of CO2. He stated that Cleantech is the 4th largest venture capital category at the present time. Energy efficiency will be uppermost on consumers minds once we reach a cost per kilowatt hour in the teens. Steele presented an informative powerpoint of “greenwashing” and the need to use third party certification in regards to marketing. Tips presented included: making sure what you are marketing is true; sell potential savings to homeowners – may pay 4.8% more initially, however decrease in utilities will offset that investment; soft costs of being healthier and happier. Knowing your target audience and the questions they have are key. Consumers are interested in saving trees; saving money on utilities and comfort & better air quality. Larry and Cheryl concluded their presentations with a Q&A session.

The breakfast meeting was sponsored by New Home Guide and Professional Edition and wrapped up with several giveaways and the 50/50 raffle.
